2013 has witnessed a lot of MMOs released or announced like Guild Wars 2, Age of Wushu, Elder Scrolls Online, etc. and there are still a growing number of MMOs in development such as Everquest Next, LEGO Minifigures, and World of Darkness.

Announced in May 2021, The Elder Scrolls Online has been in development for 6 years till now. It is the first project of ZeniMax Online Studios, which is founded in 2007. The game will be released on PS 3 and XBOX ONE and no cross-platform play is supportive. You may sign up now for beta here.

LEGO Minifigures MMO
LEGO Minifigures MMO crafted by Funcom is about to undergo closed beta testing in the 3rd quarter of 2013 and is scheduled for 2014 release. The LEGO Minifigures MMORPG is an amusing collection-driven game for kids with lots of LEGO humor, flashy combat, PvP brawls, and team PvP. It will contain a lot of different game environments from outer space to a world based on Greek mythology. The game will be available on the PC, Mac, iOS, Android and Windows mobile platforms.

Tom Clancy’s The Division
At E3 2013, Ubisoft’s announced Tom Clancy’s The Division, an upcoming MMO hybrid of third-person tactical shooter and action RPG. The game is under the Tom Clancy brand and designed for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.

WildStar is another upcoming MMORPG with a sci-fi theme. Set on the fictional planet Nexus, the game casts players to seek for the lost technology and secrets of a mysterious and powerful race known as the Eldan. The game was announced at August 17, 2011 and first slated to launch in Q4 of 2013, but was later postponed to Q1/Q2 of 2014.

Developed by Bungie, the maker of Halo, Destiny is a sci-fi-themed first-person shooting RPG. At Sony’s E3 2013 conference, Bungie revealed a demo and announced that the game would be released in 2014. The game will be released on the multiple platforms, including PS 3, PS 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. No PC version was mentioned and no subscription will be needed though the game is not free to play.

The Repopulation has a sci-fi setting that goes far into the future when the humans have to abandon Earth for another planet. It’s never a joyful adventure though, as the local aliens will anything they’ve got to drive us out. Build up a prosperous nation
as you fight off hordes of aliens. If that’s not your play style, you may also engage in diplomacy with them. It’s all up to you.

World of Darkness
World of Darkness is an upcoming MMO game set in the dark fantasy world of Vampire: the Masquerade created by White Wolf Publishing. Expected to stay true to its origins, the game will feature social interaction, player politics and role-playing, with faction and territories being a big part of the game. All those features allow you to play through the game in three different way: Coffeehouse style, Theme park, and Sandbox.

Game of Throne: Seven Kingdoms
Based on the hit HBO TV series Game of Throne, Game of Throne: Seven Kingdoms is an upcoming MMORPG set to launch on your browser. Not many details have been unveiled about the game except that it will feature sandbox PvP, castle sieges, and a political system. Star Citizen, an upcoming space trading and combat simulation game, is not the typical type of MMO. With an open world set in space, Star Citizen does not only has a full multiplayer online mode, but also a single-player, offline game mode. Private servers and mods will also be allowed. The game is now being developed by Chris Roberts’ Cloud Imperium Games, which is founded in 2011. Chris Roberts’ best known works also include Wing Commander, Privateer and Freelancer.

Co-developed by Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections, The Crew offers an open and persistent world for racing across the United States. Players can form “crews” to race together or against ghost records. It contains a single-player campaign, where you can complete missions alone, with friends, or with online co-op matchmaking, and a multiplayer mode that allows players to form teams to compete online in races. The multiplayer is not separate from the single-player. The game will launch on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Players can also build cars with a tie-in app for iOS and Android.

Salem is an upcoming MMO crafting game that bears a resemblance with Minecraft aND Terraria. It all takes place in the untapped wilds of colonial New England, where it’s your job to build villages and other settlements with only some raw materials nature offers you. Go through the process of mining, smelting, and forging nails before you can use them on the wood you chopped and shaped for building your house.

Ghost in the Shell MMO Game
Ghost in the Shell MMO Game is a brand new MMO first-person shooter co-developed by Nexon and Kodansa. The game will feature cyborg battles and a co-op battle mode, which integrates artificial intelligence with the player. Hopefully we’ll see its release at early 2014.

From indie developer Black Eye Games comes Gloria Victis, a dark MMORPG set in a dangerous fantasy medieval world. Inspired by classic RPGs like Gothic, Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights, the game will introduce realistic melee, mounted and ranged weapons from medieval times. The game will also feature a non-linear story and an open character development system with no class restriction. It was announced in November 2012 and will probably come some time in 2014.

Class4 is the project name for the follow-up to State of Decay. It is now being developed by Undead Lab, which is founded by Jeff Strain, a former Blizzard employee and one of the co-founders of ArenaNet. The upcoming title renders a zombie survival open-world for thousands of players to play simultaneously on the same server. The game is designed exclusively for the Xbox 360.
